Ingredients

For the Soup

  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 2–3 carrots, chopped
  • 2 celery stalks, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 6 cups chicken broth
  • 2 cups cooked shredded chicken
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

For the Dumplings

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 tbsp melted butter

Instructions

Make the Soup

  1. In a large pot, melt butter over medium heat. Add onion, carrots, celery, and garlic. Cook until softened (5–6 minutes).
  2. Sprinkle flour over vegetables and stir for 1 minute.
  3. Gradually add chicken broth, stirring constantly. Bring to a simmer.
  4. Add shredded chicken and cream. Season with salt and pepper.

Make the Dumplings

  1. In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt.
  2. Stir in milk and melted butter until just combined.
  3. Drop spoonfuls of dough into simmering soup. Cover and cook for 15 minutes without lifting the lid.

Finish and Serve

  1. Check dumplings—they should be fluffy and cooked through.
  2. Garnish with parsley and serve warm.
