Ingredients

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar (plus 1 cup for rolling)
  • 1 tsp peppermint extract
  • 1/4 tsp fine sea salt
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup finely crushed peppermint candies or candy canes

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Set oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Cream Butter & Sugar: Beat butter and 1/2 cup powdered sugar until smooth, light, and fluffy.
  3. Flavor: Mix in peppermint extract and sea salt.
  4. Add Flour: Gradually add flour on low speed until dough comes together. Do not overmix.
  5. Fold In Peppermint: Gently stir crushed peppermint candies into dough.
  6. Shape: Scoop tablespoons of dough, roll into 1-inch balls, and place 2 inches apart on sheets.
  7. Bake: Bake 12–14 minutes until set and bottoms are lightly golden. Tops should not brown.
  8. Coat: Cool 5 minutes. Roll warm cookies in powdered sugar. Transfer to wire rack.
  9. Finish: Once cool, roll again in powdered sugar for snowy-white look.
