Ingredients
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar (plus 1 cup for rolling)
- 1 tsp peppermint extract
- 1/4 tsp fine sea salt
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup finely crushed peppermint candies or candy canes
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Set oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Cream Butter & Sugar: Beat butter and 1/2 cup powdered sugar until smooth, light, and fluffy.
- Flavor: Mix in peppermint extract and sea salt.
- Add Flour: Gradually add flour on low speed until dough comes together. Do not overmix.
- Fold In Peppermint: Gently stir crushed peppermint candies into dough.
- Shape: Scoop tablespoons of dough, roll into 1-inch balls, and place 2 inches apart on sheets.
- Bake: Bake 12–14 minutes until set and bottoms are lightly golden. Tops should not brown.
- Coat: Cool 5 minutes. Roll warm cookies in powdered sugar. Transfer to wire rack.
- Finish: Once cool, roll again in powdered sugar for snowy-white look.
