Ultra-Crispy Buttermilk Fried Shrimp 🦐🔥🍯✨
Juicy shrimp marinated in buttermilk, dredged in seasoned flour and cornstarch, fried until golden, and finished with a fiery honey chili drizzle.
Ingredients 🛒
Shrimp
- 1 lb large shrimp, peeled & deveined (tails on)
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp paprika
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- ½ cup cornstarch
- Vegetable oil, for frying
Fiery Honey Chili Drizzle
- ¼ cup honey
- 2 tbsp chili sauce (like sriracha)
- ½ tsp red pepper flakes (optional, for extra heat)
Instructions 👩🍳
- Marinate shrimp: In bowl, mix buttermilk, salt, pepper, paprika, and garlic powder. Add shrimp. Chill 30 minutes.
- Prepare coating: Mix flour and cornstarch in shallow dish.
- Dredge: Remove shrimp from marinade. Coat in flour mixture, pressing lightly for crisp texture.
- Fry: Heat oil to 350°F (175°C). Fry shrimp in batches 2–3 minutes until golden and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
- Make drizzle: Stir honey, chili sauce, and red pepper flakes until smooth.
- Serve: Drizzle sauce over shrimp or serve on the side for dipping.
Tips
- Extra indulgence: Double-dip shrimp (marinate → dredge → dip back in buttermilk → dredge again) for thicker crust.
- Variation: Swap chili sauce for smoky chipotle paste for a deeper flavor.
- Serving idea: Plate over coleslaw or rice for a full meal.
