🍮 Amish Baked Custard ✨
A rich, creamy, and comforting dessert with warm notes of vanilla, nutmeg, and cinnamon.
Ingredients
- 4 large eggs
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ½ tsp ground nutmeg
- 3 cups whole milk, warmed
- Ground cinnamon, for topping
Directions
- Prep Oven: Preheat to 325°F (165°C). Lightly grease a 9-inch pie dish.
- Mix Base: Whisk eggs, sugar, salt, vanilla, and nutmeg until well combined.
- Add Milk: Gradually stir in warm milk.
- Assemble: Pour custard mixture into pie dish. Sprinkle lightly with cinnamon.
- Water Bath: Place dish in a larger pan. Add hot water until halfway up sides.
- Bake: Bake 55–60 minutes until custard is set but slightly jiggly in center.
- Cool: Remove from oven and water bath. Cool on wire rack, then refrigerate until chilled.
- Serve: Enjoy cold with a sprinkle of cinnamon or whipped cream.
