Ingredients
For the Cake

For the Fudge Topping
- 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
- ½ cup heavy cream
- ¼ cup butter
- ½ cup chopped pecans
- ½ cup whole pecan halves (for topping)
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Prepare Batter: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease 8Ć8 pan. Whisk flour, cocoa, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add milk, oil, egg, and vanilla; mix smooth. Stir in hot water or coffee. Pour into pan.
- Bake: Bake 25ā30 min until center springs back. Cool slightly (not fully) to help topping soak in.
- Make Fudge Topping: Heat cream and butter until steaming. Pour over chocolate chips; let sit 2 min. Stir smooth and glossy. Add chopped pecans and salt.
- Assemble: Pour warm fudge over warm cake. Spread evenly. Top with pecan halves. Rest 20 min before slicing.
