Ingredients:
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon instant yeast
- ¾ cup warm water (plus more if needed)
- 1 tablespoon oil (for greasing)
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- Coarse salt or sesame seeds for topping (optional)
Instructions:
- In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.
- Add warm water gradually and knead until a smooth dough forms.
- Cover and let the dough rise for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Divide the dough into equal pieces and shape them into balls.
- Use a tool or your fingers to make holes in the center of each ball to form bagels.
- Place the bagels on a floured tray, cover, and let them rest for 15 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 200°C (390°F).
- Brush each bagel with egg wash and sprinkle with coarse salt or seeds.
- Bake for 18–20 minutes or until golden brown.
