Ingredients

For the Meatballs

  • 500 g (18 oz) minced meat
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 egg
  • 30 g (1 oz) breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 bunch parsley, chopped
  • 1/4 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp thyme
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tsp salt

For the Sauce

  • 40 ml olive oil
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 1 liter (4 cups) milk

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Meatballs: Mix minced meat, onions, garlic, egg, breadcrumbs, parsley, and spices until combined. Shape into walnut-sized balls.
  2. Cook the Meatballs: Heat skillet with olive oil. Brown meatballs on all sides for 6–8 minutes. Remove and set aside.
  3. Make the Sauce: In the same pan, heat olive oil. Stir in flour and cook 1–2 minutes to form a roux. Gradually whisk in milk until thickened (5–7 minutes). Season to taste.
  4. Combine: Return meatballs to sauce, coat well, cover, and simmer 10–15 minutes until fully cooked and infused with flavor.
