✨ Introduction
Make long-lasting Christmas ornaments with simple salt dough—kid-friendly, budget-friendly, and perfect for keepsakes 🎄🧂🎨.
🧂 Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup fine salt
- ½ cup warm water
- Optional: 1 teaspoon vegetable oil for smoother dough
🌀 Instructions
- In a bowl, mix flour and salt thoroughly.
- Slowly add warm water while kneading until a soft, non-sticky dough forms.
- If the dough feels dry or crumbly, add a few drops of oil or water.
- Let the dough rest for 10 minutes before shaping.
✂️ Shaping & decorating
- Roll out the dough (about 1 cm thick).
- Cut shapes with cookie cutters or make hand/foot impressions.
- Use a straw or stick to poke a hanging hole at the top.
- Air dry 24–48 hours or bake at 100°C (210°F) for 1–2 hours until hard (do not brown).
- Once dry, paint with acrylics; add glitter, ribbons, or stickers.
- Thread ribbon or twine through the hole to hang.
💡 Tips
- Work on parchment paper to prevent sticking.
- For crisp edges, chill shaped dough 15 minutes before drying/baking.
- Flip ornaments halfway through drying for even hardening.
- Seal finished ornaments with clear acrylic varnish to protect paint.
📦 Storage
- Store in a cool, dry place.
- Keep away from moisture; use silica gel packets if storing long-term.
⚠️ Notes
- Salt dough is not edible—keep away from pets and small children.
- Avoid high heat; low and slow drying prevents puffing and cracks.
