Ingredients

  • 1 lb steak (ribeye, sirloin, or preferred cut)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil or butter
  • 1–2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Fresh thyme or rosemary (optional)
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce (optional)
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce (optional)

Instructions

Prepare the Steak

  1. Let steak rest at room temperature for 20–30 minutes.
  2. Pat dry with paper towels and season generously with salt and pepper.

Heat the Pan

  1. Preheat a heavy skillet (cast iron preferred) on high heat until sizzling hot.
  2. Add olive oil or butter and let it melt.

Sear the Steak

  1. Place steak in hot pan and sear each side for 2–3 minutes until golden-brown crust forms.
  2. Sear edges if steak is thick.
